Morawiecki Publishes Lengthy Statement: “Jarosław Kaczyński Was Not Wrong”

“I do not understand those who want to hide the achievements of our government away in a drawer today. Those achievements should be carried on our banners. The Polish people were not wrong to place their trust in us. (…) We have drawn conclusions from the 2023 election, but we are already looking ahead to 2027 – convinced that the right can win again if it responds to the real needs of the Polish people and presents them with a strong, modern and ambitious Poland. We showed how to govern. We showed how to win. Now we are going for a third victory,” former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki wrote on social media.

On Wednesday, the leadership of Law and Justice (PiS) instructed party members to resign from associations engaged in political activity. The resolution covers, among others, initiatives linked to Mateusz Morawiecki and Jacek Sasin.

The PiS leadership is demanding full compliance with the new rules. Members of parliament, senators and Members of the European Parliament have seven days, starting from Thursday, to submit declarations confirming that they are not members of organizations covered by the ban. Failure to comply with the resolution may result in the Political Committee launching proceedings that could ultimately lead to expulsion from the party.

Shortly after the resolution was adopted, Jacek Sasin responded by declaring that he would comply with the party’s decision and announcing the end of the activities of the “First Poland” association. Mateusz Morawiecki also commented, declaring that the “Rozwój Plus” (“Development Plus”) association would continue its activities.

“My declaration is clear: I want to remain in Law and Justice (PiS), and I want to continue developing ‘Rozwój Plus.’ I want an ambitious Poland to win,” Morawiecki wrote on Thursday.

Morawiecki: The Polish People Were Not Wrong

On Friday, Mateusz Morawiecki published another post on social media.

He stressed that the Polish people who supported the Law and Justice (PiS) government in 2023 were not mistaken because they backed a government that “reduced unemployment, strengthened public finances, supported Polish families, restored the dignity of ordinary people and guided Poland through the most difficult crises of recent decades: the pandemic, the energy crisis and the war beyond our border.”

“Jarosław Kaczyński was not wrong either, because none of this would have been possible without him. There would have been no more united, safer and more ambitious Poland. I do not understand those who want to hide the achievements of our government away in a drawer today. Those achievements should be carried on our banners. The Polish people were not wrong to trust us. Those politicians who gave Donald Tusk a second chance were the ones who were wrong,” Morawiecki wrote.

He added that those who voted for Donald Tusk’s coalition partners in 2023 “wanted adjustments to the course we had set,” but instead received “one of the worst governments in the history of the Third Polish Republic.”

“We cannot give up fighting for their votes today. We have repeatedly proven that we know how to reach such people – we have shown it many times, together. I know how to defeat Civic Platform and ensure Poland’s development. We can achieve this together once again,” the former prime minister wrote.

Morawiecki also emphasized that “we cannot lock ourselves into pointless disputes,” which is why the focus should be on “developing a program, concrete solutions and an ambitious vision for Poland for the years ahead.”

“The association is meant to be a place for serious debate, expert work and listening to the people. We have drawn conclusions from the 2023 election, but we are already looking ahead to 2027 – convinced that the right can win again if it responds to the real needs of the Polish people and presents them with a strong, modern and ambitious Poland. We showed how to govern. We showed how to win. Now we are going for a third victory – let us not allow a group of frustrated individuals to destroy the achievements of our governments,” Mateusz Morawiecki concluded.
