A day before Karol Nawrocki’s inauguration as President of Poland, Donald Tusk’s chancellery has launched an attack on Sławomir Cenckiewicz, who is set to become the head of the National Security Bureau (BBN).
On June 17, 2025, the Provincial Administrative Court in Warsaw upheld a complaint filed by Sławomir Cenckiewicz’s legal representative. The court annulled the decisions of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and of Jarosław Stróżyk/the Military Counterintelligence Service (SKW) regarding the revocation of Cenckiewicz’s security clearance.
That decision to revoke clearance was originally made in July 2024.
A few weeks ago, president-elect Karol Nawrocki announced that Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, former head of the Military Historical Bureau, would become head of the National Security Bureau in his administration. Following this announcement, the current ruling camp launched yet another attack on Cenckiewicz, questioning, among other things, his access to classified information.
The Government Escalates the Conflict
Today, one day before Karol Nawrocki is sworn in as President of Poland, Donald Tusk’s chancellery once again targeted Sławomir Cenckiewicz.
“Today, August 5, 2025, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister has filed cassation complaints to the Supreme Administrative Court against the June 17 rulings by the Provincial Administrative Court regarding the revocation of Mr. Sławomir Cenckiewicz’s security clearance for access to classified information,” announced Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services, on social media.
He stated that under the law on the protection of classified information, “Mr. Sławomir Cenckiewicz does not have access to classified information.”
“I accept the terms of war! The final word—I leave to the lawyers,” replied Sławomir Cenckiewicz.
“Appealing the ruling of the Provincial Administrative Court is a political farce. The rule is simple: the Supreme Administrative Court will uphold the PAC ruling. This case is lost for the Chancellery and the SKW. It’s nothing more than political revenge executed through propaganda – nothing new,” assessed security expert Col. Mariusz Kozłowski.
