Opposition to Illegal Migration. Former Deputy Prime Minister: ‘We’ve Had Enough, We Will Not Accept This’

Former Deputy Prime Minister Jacek Sasin has called on local governments to adopt resolutions opposing the migration policy of Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s government. In this way, a formal resistance is to be established against the admission of illegal migrants.

“Our local officials—local officials from Law and Justice (PiS)—will initiate, in every municipal, city, and county council, the adoption of appropriate resolutions that will protest the migration policy of this government, and against attempts to turn our region into one large camp for illegal migrants. We will protest, our local officials will protest through these resolutions against the deprivation of security for the residents of Podlasie, the Podlaskie Voivodeship,”

Sasin said during a press conference in Czerwony Bór.

Sasin emphasized that such resolutions will also serve as a litmus test for local officials belonging to the governing coalition—to see whether they too oppose illegal migration. In his assessment, they are currently failing this test. As an example, he cited the failure of the Białystok city council, dominated by Civic Platform (PO) councillors, to adopt such a resolution. Referring to migration pressure, the MP noted that the residents of the Podlaskie Voivodeship are particularly exposed to it. “One could say that Podlaskie is a region subjected to this pressure from both sides,” he stated.

According to him, migrants are illegally crossing the Polish-Belarusian border, and there is also an “influx” of illegal migrants from the West, primarily from Germany. He also described the migration pact as a “massive” threat which—he claimed— “may change the social character of this land, of all Poland, and above all may lead to a complete collapse of Poland’s internal security.” In his view, the government is seeking to implement the migration pact as quickly as possible.

He underscored that PiS politicians are saying a firm “no” to “the imposition of illegal migrants.” He also asserted that Poles feel the same way—with as many as 83% of respondents in a TV Republika poll reportedly opposing the relocation of migrants from Germany.

“We’re saying: we’ve had enough, we will no longer agree to this disastrous policy, which undermines our security. We are taking our fate into our own hands. We will encourage the broadest possible circles of society in the Podlaskie Voivodeship to organize themselves, to form a grassroots movement that can effectively oppose this government’s policy,”

Sasin emphasized.
