Opposition warns of prison sentences for Czarzasty and Siwiec over illegal judges’ swearing-In

What consequences await the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, and Marek Siwiec, Head of the Chancellery of the Sejm, in connection with organizing a pseudo-swearing-in of Constitutional Tribunal judges? “They could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment (Article 231 §2 of the Penal Code). They exceeded their powers, becoming part of a creeping coup that has been ongoing for over two years,” stated Jacek Sasin, a PiS MP.

A pseudo-swearing-in of new judges of the Constitutional Tribunal took place today in the Sejm, attended, among others, by representatives of the so-called “December 13 coalition” – the Speaker of the Sejm, Włodzimierz Czarzasty, the Speaker of the Senate, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, as well as some former Presidents of the Constitutional Tribunal, including Andrzej Zoll, Marek Safjan, and Jerzy Stępień.

The “usurper judges” submitted acts of pseudo-swearing-in to the Presidential Chancellery and then proceeded to the Constitutional Tribunal building.

Mariusz Błaszczak, head of the PiS parliamentary caucus, announced that his party will submit a notification to the prosecutor’s office regarding a suspected crime because, in PiS’s view, Article 231 §2 of the Penal Code has been violated. This provision concerns the liability of a public official who, by exceeding their authority or failing to fulfill their duties, acts with the intent of obtaining a personal or financial benefit.

Jacek Sasin, a PiS MP, also commented on the matter. In a post published on X, the politician stated that “Speaker Czarzasty and the Head of the Sejm Chancellery, Siwiec, could face up to 10 years’ imprisonment (Article 231 §2 of the Penal Code).”
