Poland’s 84 athletes compete in Paris Paralympics, aiming for medals across 15 disciplines.
The Paris Paralympics have officially begun, with French President Emmanuel Macron declaring the games open in a unique ceremony on the Champs-Élysées. Unlike previous games, the opening ceremony took place outside the stadium, culminating at the Place de la Concorde. “I declare the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games open,” said President Macron.
Poland’s Strong Contenders
Poland is represented by 84 athletes—41 women and 43 men—competing in 15 sports. Among them are Lucyna Kornobys, a decorated shot put champion, and Maciej Lepiato, a high jump world record holder with a strong Paralympic track record. Both served as flag bearers during the opening.
A Global Gathering
Approximately 4,400 athletes from 168 countries are in Paris, competing for 549 sets of medals in 22 disciplines. Russian and Belarusian athletes are competing under a neutral flag. Three years ago in Tokyo, Poland won 24 medals. They are aiming to improve on that tally this time.
