Pay Raises Promised, But Will the Money Be Found? ‘They Want to Hold Out Until the Elections’

They promised pay raises, but will they find the money for them? “They want to hold out until the elections.”

Starting from July 1st this year, healthcare workers are set to receive pay raises. However, the dire condition of the sector raises the question: will there be enough money for higher salaries? This morning, two organizations—the Union of Polish Counties and the National Association of Employers of District Hospitals—issued an urgent appeal to the Prime Minister, Donald Tusk.

Not long ago, it was announced that starting in July 2025, healthcare workers will be eligible for a salary adjustment. According to the new regulations, the lowest wages for doctors and other medical professionals will be increased. The highest raises will go to specialists, with the minimum salary for doctors with specialization increasing to 11,863.49 PLN.

Additionally, at the beginning of April, the Sejm approved a government bill that proposes a reduction in the health insurance contribution for a selected group of entrepreneurs. It is estimated that this measure will cost the state budget around 5 billion PLN annually. The reduction of the health insurance contribution has been met with loud criticism from rational thinkers. It must be acknowledged that this is a significant strain on an already meager budget for healthcare.
