PGE PAK Nuclear Energy has received a fundamental decision regarding the construction of a nuclear power plant. The application submitted by PGE PAK Nuclear Energy contained crucial details about the planned facility, which will be built using the proven and safe APR1400 technology. According to the plan, two reactors with a total installed capacity of 2800 MW will provide 22 TWh of electricity annually, equivalent to 12% of Poland’s current electricity demand.
Energy security is fundamental to the functioning of a state, and in the face of challenges associated with energy transformation, nuclear energy is poised to provide robust and stable foundations in the coming years. This extends not only to ensuring access to affordable and clean energy but also to the broader economic development of the country. The realization of the project undertaken by PGE PAK Nuclear Energy in collaboration with the Korean partners in Pątnów aligns perfectly with the government’s plans in this regard. The issuance of a fundamental decision for this project confirms this alignment. Thus, it is hoped that nothing will hinder or impede the further progress of this project.
“The fundamental decision is crucial for the realization of the nuclear power plant construction and allows us to move on to the next stages of the investment. We received it in just under 13 months from signing the letter of intent. For such a significant investment, this is a very good result. It is also evidence of the commitment and good cooperation of all partners in the project, confirming that the ambitious plan to commission the first block of the power plant by 2035 is very realistic. The power plant will provide consumers with affordable and clean energy, ensuring energy security and independence for Poland along with renewable energy sources,” said Wojciech Dąbrowski, the CEO of PGE Polish Energy Group.
The decision from the Ministry of Climate and the Environment allows PGE PAK Nuclear Energy to proceed to the next stage of the investment, including environmental and location studies, preparation of the feasibility study for the project, and continuing discussions on financing the investment.
