PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna will donate a total of PLN 10 billion in 2023 to freeze electricity prices. These funds will be used as part of the government’s solidarity shield, thanks to which every family in Poland will save around PLN 2,000 a year on their electricity bills, and large families and farmers even PLN 3,000. At the same time, the company is pursuing an ambitious investment plan to transform the Polish economy so that as much energy as possible comes from low-carbon sources, without the burden of EU climate costs.
The Polish Energy Pact is a whole spectrum of measures that we are taking so that Poles now and, in the future, will have stable energy prices and guaranteed security.
“Since the beginning of the energy crisis, we have introduced protective measures to protect our citizens. Today, we are committing that we will continue such a policy, while at the same time carrying out the huge task of transforming the energy sector towards cheap, secure and clean energy from the atom supported by RES. The leading role in this process is played by State Treasury companies, which have repeatedly shown that ensuring energy security to Poles is a task they consistently fulfil,” said Jacek Sasin, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State Assets.
“As a company that is socially responsible and ensures energy security for millions of Poles, we actively participate in the government’s activities aimed at lowering energy bills. The PLN 10 billion that PGE will contribute to the operation of the Solidarity Shield in 2023 is a real strengthening of energy security and financial stability of families, businesses and vulnerable institutions. Thanks to the energy price cap, annual savings for an average family may amount to as much as PLN 3,000,” said Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
In 2023, every household in Poland will benefit from an electricity price freeze at the 2022 price level. All households will have their rates frozen up to a consumption threshold of 2 000 kWh, without having to complete any additional paperwork. If there is a person with a disability in the household, then the consumption limit is 2 600 kWh. For farmers and Large Family Card holders, the limit is 3 000 kWh. In the latter two situations, a declaration confirming the right to an increased limit is required by the end of June 2023. The declaration should be submitted at the energy seller’s Customer Service Office, via the website, the ePUAP platform or by letter. A model declaration is available at www.gkpge.pl/dla-domu/oszczedzasz-2000 Once the indicated limits are exceeded, the price for each additional KWh is fixed at 69 cents.
“The PLN 10 billion price freeze is our emergency measure, because it is important to protect Poles from the effects of the energy crisis caused by Putin’s war. At the same time, we are implementing an ambitious investment plan to transform the Polish economy so that these prices do not rise in the future. We are in the process of investing in offshore wind farms, photovoltaic farms, we are replacing heat sources with low-carbon ones, and we are implementing the necessary modernisation and expansion of the distribution network, which will prepare it to handle increased energy demand and to connect new distributed generation sources from RES. In total, we want to invest more than PLN 75 billion in the Polish economy by 2030. As a result, much more electricity will be produced without the burden of CO2 emissions. This is the only way we can protect our citizens from high electricity prices in the future,” said Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.
PGE transfers funds for freezing energy prices through the Price Difference Payment Fund. PGE’s deduction for this purpose after the first quarter of 2023 exceeded PLN 2.3 billion.
