PiS, Confederation, and Poland 2050 Join Forces. Tusk’s Party Left Alone!

Late last night, the Sejm passed an amendment to the law increasing the state budget spending limit on social housing. Interestingly, one of the proposed amendments passed thanks to the support of parties such as Law and Justice (PiS), Confederation, and Poland 2050!

Renting? You May Soon Be Able to Own

Even before the final vote, the Sejm approved some minority motions and an amendment submitted by Poland 2050-TD. As MP Kamil Wnuk explained, one of the proposals aimed to enable institutional paths to ownership through SIM (Social Housing Initiatives). Wnuk noted that such an option currently doesn’t exist, but this change would make it possible in cities with fewer than 100,000 residents. In such cases, tenants would be able to apply to SIM to convert their current rental agreement into an institutional lease with the option to acquire ownership.

Civic Platform Isolated!

What’s especially notable is that several of the minority motions and the amendment to the bill were passed largely thanks to a majority formed primarily by MPs from three parties: Law and Justice, Confederation, and Poland 2050. A new majority emerged during four votes throughout the bill’s legislative process.

In the final vote on the full amendment, 234 MPs voted in favor, 181 were against, and 23 abstained. Notably, most MPs from the PiS and Confederation clubs voted against the overall amendment.
