Law and Justice (PiS) party is raising the alarm over the increasingly worsening situation on the labour market. According to the party, under the rule of the “13 December coalition,” there has been a record wave of layoffs, while at the same time the number of job vacancies has dropped dramatically.
A deteriorating labour market
PiS reports hundreds and thousands of layoffs across Poland. At the same time, the number of job offers has declined to 26,000, the lowest level in over a decade.
“The market is shrinking, and people are left without opportunities,”
we read.
According to the latest data, unemployment currently stands at as much as 6.1%.
PiS MEP Piotr Müller noted that unemployment in Poland is rising, which is also clearly visible in the Pomerania region.
According to data from Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS), in February 2025, there were 46,500 registered unemployed persons in the Pomeranian Voivodeship, while in February 2026 the number had already risen to 53,700, an increase of 15.48% within a single year. This signals a worsening situation on the labour market. The number of registered unemployed has also increased nationwide. “Behind these figures are real people, families, and local communities. Today, there is a need for a serious discussion about the economy, investments, and real support for the labour market,” the PiS MEP wrote.
A sharp rise in unemployment is now one of the most visible effects of what he described as the ineffective governance of Donald Tusk and the Civic Platform (PO), added PiS MEP Arkadiusz Mularczyk.
