PKN Orlen claims CEO wasn’t ABW informant

Daniel Obajtek, the CEO of PKN Orlen, Poland’s state-owned fuel corporation, never cooperated with the Polish internal security services, the company has said.

PKN Orlen, which is one of Poland’s biggest companies, posted the denial on Twitter on Monday.

The statement came in response to an article published in the newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza which alleged that Obajtek was an informant for Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) from 2009 to 2014.

“Daniel Obajtek, the head of PKN Orlen, was never registered as an information source for the ABW,” Orlen wrote. The company also accused Gazeta Wyborcza of publishing false information.

Orlen wrote that Obajtek planned to take legal steps in the matter.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza, Obajtek was registered as a “consultant or personal information source” at the ABW office in Krakow.
