Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has expressed his support for a proposal put forth by President Andrzej Duda, which calls for the establishment of a commission to investigate Russian influence within member states.
President Duda recently announced the signing of legislation creating an investigative commission to examine alleged Russian influence on Polish politics from 2007 to 2022. In addition, he intends to request that the prime minister propose a similar commission at the EU level.
Morawiecki affirmed his commitment to raising this issue during European Council meetings, stating that he has repeatedly emphasized the dangers of Russian propaganda and the Kremlin’s efficacy in disseminating fake news and influencing election outcomes, even in influential countries like the United States.
The prime minister commended Duda’s suggestion to address the problem on a European scale, expressing hope that there would be sufficient support from institutions and member states. He emphasized his intention to advocate strongly for investigating Russian influence through a dedicated commission.
