In a significant move to bolster national security, Poland is set to establish a new mechanized division with its headquarters in Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą. The decision was announced on November 3, 2023, by Mariusz Błaszczak, the Minister of National Defense. The new division, officially named the 8th Infantry Division of the Home Army in honor of Romuald Traugutta, is a vital addition to Poland’s military capabilities.
Nowe Miasto nad Pilicą was chosen as the division’s headquarters due to its rich military history, where Polish armed forces were stationed for decades. Minister Błaszczak explained that the location was initially considered for the Air Force but was repurposed for land forces due to the construction of the Central Communication Port. The division will contribute to strengthening Poland’s defense, as the country faces various global security challenges.
The 8th Infantry Division, following a “four-by-four” model, will include two mechanized brigades, a motorized brigade, an artillery brigade, an armored brigade, logistical and anti-tank regiments, an anti-aircraft regiment, and specialized battalions. This strategic development aims to enhance Poland’s security and honor the legacy of the Home Army’s role in history.
