Polish handball players lost their chances to play in the quarterfinals of the IHF Men’s World Championship after losing to Spain. On Friday, the Polish national team faced Montenegro and defeated it.
Wednesday marked the beginning of the main phase of the world handball championship. The teams that won promotion to it are fighting in four six-team groups to play in the 1/4 finals. The two best teams from each group will remain in contention for the title.
Unfortunately, there will be no representatives of Poland in this group. In the first phase, they played in Katowice’s Spodek. They started their performance in the tournament with two defeats – against France and Slovenia. In the decisive game, they defeated Saudi Arabia and advanced.
The white and red had to beat Spain on Wednesday. After a good first half, they lost to the European runners-up 27:23.
Friday’s match was a quite good one. The Polish team defeated Montenegro and therefore is not the last team in the group.
Now, the Polish team will fight for the highest possible place. They will be ranked from 9th to 24th, depending on the results of the next matches.
