Poland advances its longest railway tunnel project in Łódź, enhancing travel with high-speed rail connections between major cities.
Major Milestone for Poland’s Infrastructure
Poland’s Ministry of Infrastructure has announced the receipt of five bids for constructing the country’s longest railway tunnel in Łódź. The project, part of the ambitious Central Communication Port (CPK) initiative, will span 4.6 kilometers, connecting the “Retkinia” and “Fabryczna” chambers. This key section of the high-speed rail network aims to significantly reduce travel time between Warsaw, Wrocław, and Poznań.
Financial and Technical Scope
The project budget is set at PLN 2.8 billion, with bids ranging from PLN 2.166 billion to PLN 2.797 billion, all within the planned budget. The winning contractor will be selected based on price (70%) and personnel qualifications (30%). Construction is slated to begin in late 2026 and finish by 2028. This tunnel, the largest built using TBM technology in Poland, will pass beneath Łódź’s dense urban structures, requiring rigorous safety and technical standards.
Transforming Poland’s Rail Network
Scheduled for completion in 2032, the high-speed rail line will cut travel time between Warsaw and Łódź to 40 minutes, enhancing connectivity and reducing transport exclusion.
