“We reveal the multilayered dysfunctions plaguing indebted medical facilities,” Thursday’s edition of Rzeczpospolita announces. According to hospital directors, merely limiting doctors’ earnings would be far from sufficient.
The newspaper reports that the combined debt of hospitals in Poland exceeded PLN 37 billion at the end of March, while overdue liabilities rose to more than PLN 5 billion.
„However, these figures do not reflect the full scale of the crisis and the dire conditions in public hospitals,“
the newspaper observes.
According to the daily, unpaid debts continue to grow on their own, not only because of interest, but also due to the requirements of the Act on Counteracting Excessive Delays in Commercial Transactions. The legislation introduced fixed compensation for debt recovery costs, ranging from EUR 40 to EUR 100 for each invoice.
The author quotes a hospital director:
“We are charged an additional fee for every overdue and unpaid invoice. For invoices worth up to PLN 5,000, the fee is EUR 40; for those worth between PLN 5,000 and PLN 50,000, it is EUR 70; and for invoices above that amount, it is EUR 100. There is no way out of debts like these,”
he said.
