A company belonging to the Ukrainian DTEK group, DRI, together with the American Fluence Energy BV, will build in Trzebinia the largest energy storage facility in Poland with a capacity of 133 MW, Interfax-Ukraine reported on Tuesday. The news was sharply commented on by Law and Justice (PiS) MP Dariusz Matecki.
The Largest Energy Storage Facility in Poland
“The DRI Trzebinia project with a capacity of 133 MW will become the largest undertaking in Poland in the field of battery energy storage under a 17-year capacity market contract, which will take effect in 2027,” Fluence Energy announced in a statement.
The agreement was concluded two weeks after Fluence and DTEK launched a 200 MW energy storage facility to support Ukraine’s energy security.
A Ukrainian Billionaire Behind the Project
The DRI Trzebinia storage facility is expected to become the largest of its kind on the Polish capacity market once the batteries are connected to the system in 2027. The stored energy will be used as a reserve during peak demand periods or drops in production, strengthening Poland’s energy security and reducing energy costs compared to alternative generation methods.
The DTEK group belongs to Ukraine’s richest man, Rinat Akhmetov, whose current wealth is estimated at around 6 billion USD.
Matecki Comments
Law and Justice MP Dariusz Matecki commented on the matter on his profile on X.
“Ukraine is taking part in the reconstruction of Poland after almost two years of rule by a German agent,” he wrote.
