Pole nominated for FIFA Puskás Award

For the first time ever, a Polish footballer has been nominated for the prestigious FIFA Puskás Award. The award is given to the scorers of the most beautiful goals at the FIFA BEST Football Awards gala in Switzerland.

Looking at all categories, this is only the second nomination for a Polish player in the history of the poll. Earlier only Robert Lewandowski was nominated, who won the best footballer award in 2020 and 2021.

Alongside Mbappé, Balotelli or Richarlison, the FIFA committee recognised Marcin Oleksy. He is a Polish amputee who scored an incredible goal in the PZU Amp Futbol Ekstraklasa match between Warta Poznań and Stala Rzeszów.

“Pole with nomination FIFA Football Awards! The impossible does not exist. Marcin Oleksy’s ampfutbol goal has been nominated for the most prestigious FIFA PUSKÁS AWARD in football. Mbappé, Balotelli, Richarlison and… Marcin Oleksy,”

Amp Futbol Poland reported on Twitter.

“I find it hard to believe the nomination for the FIFA award! This is amazing and I’m still processing all of this. I am very happy about this award, and I hope it will help promote and develop ampfutbol not only in Poland but also worldwide,”

    Marcin Oleksy told AmpFutbol Poland.

From the 11 goals nominated this year, a final three will be selected through a fan vote on the FIFA website. Then the committee will then choose the winner. The winner of the FIFA Puskás Award 2022 will be announced on 27 February at the FIFA Gala in Zurich.
