Poles Take Over Production After U.S. Giant. “You Need to Know This Story”

After the closure of a factory owned by an American clothing giant, a Polish entrepreneur hired some of its former workers and created his own brand at the site. “This is real economic patriotism,” said Mateusz Morawiecki.

The American apparel company Levi’s shut down its plant in Płock in 2024, after 32 years of operating in Poland. The factory, which employed around 650 people, was closed.

“It may have seemed like a hopeless situation, but that’s when a Polish entrepreneur stepped in. The company of Mr. Daniel Kurowski took over the facility from the American giant. He hired workers with years of sewing experience and is building a Polish brand called Jan Spekter,” Morawiecki said in a video, sharing the story of the new business on his X platform.

“This is what responsible business looks like. This is courage. This is true economic patriotism. This is ‘Powered by Poland’ in practice — something we talk about so often,” the former prime minister added, announcing that he would shop at the Polish brand’s store.

Media reports indicate that the Polish entrepreneur leased part of the space left behind by the American company and initially employed around 50 workers, many of whom had spent years working at the jeans factory.
