An additional 70 PLN on electricity bills — this is how much more Poles will have to pay starting in July. What is the response from the Minister of Climate and Environment, Paulina Hennig-Kloska? Her answer came as no surprise.
End of the Anti-Inflation Shield
It is worth recalling that the announcement regarding the termination of the anti-inflation shield was included in a document adopted by the Council of Ministers at the end of April. The reference appeared in the Report on the Implementation of the Medium-Term Budgetary and Structural Plan for 2025–2028, in which the government outlines measures aimed at reducing public spending.
This means that certain elements of the shield will expire at the end of June. This includes, among other things, subsidies related to electricity costs — particularly the capacity fee.
Currently, until the end of this month, the capacity fee stands at 0 PLN. However, all indications suggest that this relief will not be extended, which will, in turn, lead to an increase in electricity costs.
How Will Electricity Prices Change?
According to the tariffs published by the Energy Regulatory Office, the monthly capacity fee for most households (with annual consumption between 1,200 and 2,800 kWh) will amount to 11.44 PLN net. As a result, the annual cost of electricity is expected to rise by approximately 70 PLN on average. It is worth noting that the maximum rates for electricity itself will remain in effect until 30 September.
Minister of Climate and Environment Paulina Hennig-Kloska was asked about the matter during an interview on Radio Zet.
“The capacity fee varies. For small households, it will be around PLN 2. It depends on the size of the family and how much electricity is used. We are waiting for the calculation of the new tariffs — by the end of July, energy companies will submit their tariff applications. I advocated for the protective measures to be in place for the entire year. The budget was allocated as it was. If the prices proposed by the energy companies do not fall to the statutory level — and I expect they probably won’t — I will propose to the government to extend the energy support measures, the shield that provides energy protection.”
said Paulina Hennig-Kloska on Radio Zet.
The Minister emphasized that this would be financed “from the savings accumulated over three quarters within the program.”
