Polish Boxers Excel in Olympic Qualification Tournament

Elżbieta Wójcik, competing in the 75 kg category, secured a commanding victory over Melissa Gemini of Italy with a score of 4:1 at the Olympic qualification tournament held in Busto Arsizio, Italy. Despite a point deduction in the second round, Wójcik maintained control throughout the match, earning praise from Kamil Gorząd, the assistant coach of the Polish women’s team.

Wójcik’s next challenge will be against Diem Qyunh Luu of Vietnam, following her victory over Gemini. Meanwhile, Aneta Rygielska (66 kg) advanced to the next round via walkover as her opponent, Stephanie Pineiro from Puerto Rico, failed to make weight.

Rygielska will face Suijn Seon of South Korea in her upcoming bout. Additionally, five more Polish boxers will compete in the tournament on Thursday, including Sandra Drabik (54 kg) and Julia Szeremeta (57 kg).

    Men’s Contenders Enter the Ring

Bartłomiej Rośkowicz (63.5 kg) is set to face Mizan Aykol of Turkey, while Mateusz Bereźnicki (92 kg) awaits the winner of Joseph Kostur from Slovakia and Andres Hurtado from Colombia. Damian Durkacz (71 kg) will go up against Aslanbek Shymbergenov of Kazakhstan.

With the possibility of four Polish female boxers securing spots in the Olympics, the journey to Paris seems within reach. The next round of matches will take place on March 9th, with potential quarterfinals just two days later.
