A Polish citizen, Mariusz Majewski sentenced to life imprisonment in Congo for espionage has been released and is now at the Polish consulate in Brussels.
Last Thursday, the individual was convicted of espionage in Congo. However, after diplomatic discussions, he arrived in Brussels on Tuesday, where he remains under consulate protection.
On Friday, Polish President Andrzej Duda spoke with the President of Congo regarding the case. Presidential Minister Wojciech Kolarski emphasized Poland’s duty to protect its citizens in dire situations, ensuring cooperation between the presidential office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the citizen’s immediate release.
