Polish Company R.Power Expands Solar Energy in Portugal

Polish company R.Power expands solar energy in Portugal with new parks, boosting the country’s renewable energy transition.

Polish company R.Power has established its second solar park in Portugal, located in the municipality of Serta. The facility spans 9 hectares and powers 3,300 households in the Castelo Branco district. Comprising 8,600 photovoltaic modules, the new park has a production capacity of 8.4 GWh.

    Boosting Solar Energy in Portugal
This investment follows R.Power’s first solar park in Portugal, inaugurated in May in the Evora district, with a capacity of 16 GWh. These developments contribute to a significant increase in solar energy’s share in Portugal’s energy mix. In August, solar panels accounted for a record 15.3% of the country’s electricity consumption.

    Renewable Energy Transition
In the first eight months of 2024, nearly 10% of Portugal’s electricity consumption came from solar energy. Despite this growth, hydropower remains the dominant energy source, accounting for over 35% of electricity consumption in 2024.
