Polish Holiday Spending Rises to Record Levels in 2024

Poles are expected to spend an average of 1,576 PLN per household on Christmas this year, an 8% increase compared to 2023. This rise is likely driven by inflation and greater enthusiasm for holiday expenses, as revealed in a recent survey by IBRiS. In total, Poland’s festive spending will reach a staggering 21.9 billion PLN.

    Shifting Priorities

Gifts will consume 51% of the Christmas budget, marking a decline from 66% last year. Meanwhile, more funds are being allocated to food, decorations, and organizing family gatherings. Popular gift choices include cosmetics (38.5%), toys (33.9%), sweets (30.8%), and clothing (29.1%). Interestingly, 26.5% of respondents plan to give cash as presents.

Over half of Poles (52%) intend to shop during the second half of December, a notable increase from 38% in 2023. November shopping also rose slightly to 14.3%. Most grocery purchases will occur in discount stores (67.4%), followed by hypermarkets (39.9%), bazaars (33.6%), and online platforms (15.3%).

This survey, conducted on November 24–25 with 1,100 participants, underscores the evolving spending habits of Polish families during the festive season.
