Polish Talent Michał Karbownik Joins Hertha Berlin in 2. Bundesliga

Polish talent Michał Karbownik joins Hertha Berlin, aiming to make an impact in 2. Bundesliga after standout performances at Fortuna Düsseldorf.

Berlin-based club Hertha Berlin has secured a new addition to their squad with the signing of Polish talent Michał Karbownik. The 21-year-old versatile player, who notably stood out in the previous season of Germany’s second-tier league, caught the eye of several German clubs after his loan spell at Fortuna Düsseldorf. Hertha Berlin, eager to bolster their lineup, swiftly finalized personal terms and a transfer fee agreement with Brighton.

Karbownik, primarily a left-back, demonstrated his prowess on both flanks and in midfield during his time at Fortuna Düsseldorf, contributing one goal and seven assists in 28 matches. Hertha’s sporting director, Benjamin Weber, praised Karbownik’s adaptability and familiarity with the league and Polish national team.

Following relegation from the Bundesliga, Hertha’s performance in the 2. Bundesliga has been challenging, with consecutive losses to Fortuna Düsseldorf and SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The club hopes for a turnaround as they face Carl Zeiss Jena in a cup fixture. With Karbownik’s swift contract signing until June 2026, head coach Pál Dárdai anticipates leveraging his skills.

Karbownik expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating, “Hertha’s consistent interest made the decision easy. I’m eager to contribute and develop both athletically and personally.” He will don the number “6” jersey. The team’s first victory this season is crucial for both sporting and economic reasons.
