“The 1,000-year Polish-Hungarian friendship must endure – it goes beyond parliamentary elections. This is the sovereign choice of the Hungarian nation,” this is how the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, commented on the results of the parliamentary elections in Hungary.
The outcome of the Hungarian parliamentary elections dominated Monday morning. After 16 years, Fidesz has lost power to Tisza – the party of Peter Magyar, the likely future prime minister.
President Nawrocki comments on the Hungarian election results
Among those pleased with Magyar’s victory is the ruling coalition in Poland. Prime Minister Donald Tusk reacted to the defeat of Hungary’s incumbent prime minister as follows: “a weight off my shoulders, because I was worried until the very end.”
How did President of Poland Karol Nawrocki respond to the results? In an interview with Polsat News, he said:
“This is, of course, the choice of the Hungarian nation. They have chosen their prime minister, to whom I extend my congratulations on winning the election. The 1,000-year Polish-Hungarian friendship must endure – it goes beyond parliamentary elections. This is the sovereign choice of the Hungarian nation.”
The Polish head of state assured that it is not the role of the President of Poland to comment on elections and that “he will cooperate with anyone elected by free nations, for the good of the Republic of Poland.”
