President Andrzej Duda has sent letters to all NATO leaders, urging them to increase defense spending to 3% of GDP. “We have no time to waste—we must act now,” Duda wrote to the leaders. “There is no strong Europe without the U.S. and NATO, just as there is no strong NATO without a committed Europe,” he added.
The letter was first reported by Euronews, with sources from the Presidential Palace confirming the information. As noted, the letter calls for raising defense spending to at least 3% of GDP and was sent to the heads of government and state of all NATO member countries.
“There is no strong Europe without the U.S. and NATO, just as there is no strong NATO without a committed Europe,” Euronews quoted from the letter.
“During my recent visit to NATO Headquarters, I officially requested NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte to include the issue of raising defense spending to a minimum of 3% of GDP for all NATO members on the agenda of the upcoming summit in The Hague,” Duda reminded in the letter.
“We no longer have time for discussion. We need decisions. We must act now,” he emphasized.
The President also highlighted Poland’s sharp increase in defense spending, stressing that the country should be seen not only as a recipient of security but also as a contributor.
