President Karol Nawrocki Comments on the Recovery Fund Scandal: “It’s troubling that the funds were used to buy coffee machines, yachts, saunas, and tanning beds”

In his first interview with Republika, speaking to Danuta Holecka, President Karol Nawrocki sharply criticized the misconduct surrounding the allocation of funds from the National Recovery Plan (KPO), which went to individuals connected to the Civic Coalition (KO). He stressed that the money was being spent on “coffee machines, yachts, saunas, and tanning beds.”

Sovereignty More Important Than the KPO

Nawrocki emphasized that he had never supported the KPO or the fact that its release was conditioned on assessments of Polish rule of law — a mechanism he said was used by Brussels and Berlin to limit Poland’s sovereignty.

“I have never supported, and do not support, financial blackmail against Poland. Matters such as our rule of law — which today, unfortunately, is in a deplorable state because of the current government — our constitution, Polish security, and the lives of Polish citizens have no price for which we could give them up. So, neither then nor now am I a supporter of such financial blackmail, regardless of how the money is distributed — and its distribution is, frankly, troubling,”

the president said.
