They are at a level that ensures cooperation between Poland and Ukraine, but I do not hide the fact that I see many issues completely differently than the President of Ukraine. For me, it is natural that while looking after Poland’s interests, I may cause certain controversies or dissatisfaction for President Zelensky, explained President Karol Nawrocki, speaking about the relations between himself and the Ukrainian head of state.
The emerging prospect of ending the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the relative stabilization of the situation of our eastern neighbor brings further decisions on the part of the Polish state.
The President recently signed a law on aid for Ukrainians residing in Poland. Another initiative from the Presidential Palace, aimed at combating the promotion of Banderism, has also been submitted to the Speaker’s Office.
“They Are Correct”
In the context of, among other things, limiting privileges for Ukrainians in Poland, Karol Nawrocki was asked by journalists of Wprost in an interview about his relations with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. The Polish President emphasized that they are correct, although he admitted they are not friendly.
“They are at a level that ensures cooperation between Poland and Ukraine, but I do not hide the fact that I see many issues completely differently than the President of Ukraine. For me, it is natural that while looking after Poland’s interests, I may cause certain controversies or dissatisfaction for President Zelensky,” explained the President of Poland.
The heads of both states have already had the opportunity to meet during the UN General Assembly. In addition, they have spoken several times remotely or by phone.
When asked whether he discussed differences of opinion with the Ukrainian leader, he admitted that this was not the subject of their talks. – If President Zelensky or the presidents of other countries are dissatisfied with my actions, they will simply have to deal with it for the next five years, added Nawrocki.
