President Nawrocki: “The U.S. alliance is central to Poland’s national interest”

Following his appearance at CPAC 2026 in Dallas, President Karol Nawrocki, in an exclusive interview with Tomasz Sakiewicz on TV Republika, emphasized the importance of Poland’s relations with the United States. “Of course, I define the alliance with the United States as Poland’s raison d’état,” he said. He added that “Poland’s relations with the United States and NATO are undoubtedly strategic and cannot be weighed against Poland’s membership in the European Union.”

After the conclusion of CPAC 2026 in Dallas, President Karol Nawrocki appeared as a guest of Tomasz Sakiewicz on TV Republika.

In the interview, he addressed Poland’s relations with the United States and the significance of NATO. “The United States (…) is a strategic ally,” he stressed, pointing, among other things, to the presence of American troops in Poland and military cooperation.

“The North Atlantic Alliance is the strongest alliance in the history of the world,”

he said, underscoring the importance of security in the region.

The president also spoke about ongoing processes in Europe and transatlantic relations. “It is a very misguided assumption to frame this issue as a choice between the European Union and the United States,” he noted.

He added that Poland should play a particular role.

“We should be the principal ally of the United States and a link in this transatlantic vessel between Europe and the United States,”

he indicated.

Economic issues were also raised in the conversation. “Nevertheless, it is the alliance with the United States that is regarded as strategic. It is a strategic alliance,” he said, adding: “We have received an invitation to a G20 group meeting, and that is already a process (…). This is very good news for Polish entrepreneurs and for Poland as a whole.”

The president highlighted the broad scope of cooperation with the U.S. “In technological, economic, and military aspects, as well as in terms of values and history, we are simply an ally of the United States,” he said.

At the same time, he referred to Poland’s position within the European Union. “Poland first, Poles first,” he emphasized, pointing to the need to protect national interests.

“It is not in the interest of many countries for Poland to be the main and strategic ally of the United States while also being a stable and assertive member of the European Union,”

he added.

An important theme of the conversation was also the issue of freedom. “Polish freedom cannot be defeated,” he said, referring to historical experiences.

In the final part of the interview, he clearly stated his position. “Of course, I define the alliance with the United States as Poland’s raison d’état,” he reiterated.

“Poland’s relations with the United States and NATO are undoubtedly strategic and cannot be weighed against Poland’s membership in the European Union,”

he concluded.
