President to Pursue Further Action in the Czarzasty Case, Citing Legal Authority

“The President will continue, through an exchange of correspondence, to request information regarding the actions of the services in the case of Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty. He has the authority to do so under the Act on the services, including the Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the three other services. This process will be continued,” announced Zbigniew Bogucki, Head of the Chancellery of the President, following the meeting of the National Security Council (RBN).

Czarzasty’s Dangerous Connections

As established by the portal Niezależna.pl, Włodzimierz Czarzasty has for years served on the board of a foundation headed by Marian Kubalica, who publicly praises Vladimir Putin and disseminates pro-Russian propaganda. Kubalica, a former associate of the Left politician from the “Ordynacka” circle, shares materials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian embassy, and insults Andrzej Poczobut, who is imprisoned by the regime of Alexander Lukashenko.

Meanwhile, Gazeta Polska described contacts between Czarzasty and his wife and a Russian national engaged in the art trade, who is linked to an auction house connected to a major Russian bank controlled by the Kremlin.

Czarzasty’s alleged dangerous connections were among the topics discussed during today’s meeting of the National Security Council. The second-highest-ranking official in the state remained silent during the discussion.

“The President Will Take Steps”

TV Republika reporter Justyna Wróblewska asked during the Chancellery’s press conference whether the fact that the Speaker of the Sejm Czarzasty has access to classified information poses a threat to Poland’s security.

Zbigniew Bogucki emphasized that “this matter is not personal in nature; it does not concern sympathies or antipathies.” He stated that “the issue here concerns the security of access to the most strictly protected information by the second-highest-ranking official in the state, the Marshal of the Sejm, an individual who may perform the duties of President.”

“There must not remain any doubts. After this National Security Council meeting, in light of the Speaker of the Sejm’s silent stance, we cannot say that such doubts do not exist. They remain. Therefore, the President will continue, through correspondence pursuant to Article 18 of the Act on the ABW, to request information regarding the actions of the services in this matter. He has the authority to do so under the Act on the services, including the ABW and the three other services. This process will continue because it is required by state security; not curiosity, not political warfare, but state security,”

he announced.

He added that, in his view, “silence is also a telling sign.”

“Let me recall the President’s position, who, in the public part of the session, presented step by step all the elements of the so-called ‘screenings’ conducted by the services at various stages of his activity. All of them were positive. The Speaker of Sejm Czarzasty’s allegations are absolutely unfounded. These screenings took place both during the PiS government and during Donald Tusk’s government. The services found nothing that would have prevented President Nawrocki from obtaining access. The attempt by the Speaker of the Sejm to raise questions is, in my view, simply an attempt to get ahead of the issue. It is an attempt to shift this matter onto the President. The facts are different. On the President’s side, we have facts; on the other side, there are only words or silence,”

he declared.
