“While Polish farmers are being forced into an agreement with the Mercosur countries and destructive competition from South America and Ukraine, millions of złotys from the state budget are flowing to friendly media outlets,” wrote Law and Justice (PiS) MP Dariusz Matecki on the X platform. The politician revealed the results of a parliamentary inspection concerning the Ministry of Agriculture’s promotional spending, including “media activities.”
According to Matecki, in just two years ministers from the Polish People’s Party (PSL) spent more than 27 million złotys on promotion. – Of this amount, 25,234,435.92 zł went to so-called “media activities,” including 22,353,007.56 zł spent directly by the ministry and 2,881,428.36 zł by subordinate units. A further 1,901,297.92 zł was allocated to the Internet and social media – he stated.
“These are the funds of all taxpayers!” emphasized the PiS MP.
Who received the money?
The politician indicated that the funds went to several companies. “Polish Television in liquidation – over 13,000,000 zł, Polsat Group – nearly 3,000,000 zł, TVN S.A. – approximately 2,500,000 zł, Eurozet Group (Agora) – nearly 2,000,000 zł, Polish Radio in liquidation – over 1,500,000 zł, RMF – nearly 1,000,000 zł,” he wrote.
“Campaigns used politically”
According to Matecki, some editorial offices are deliberately excluded. Among them, he mentioned TV Republika. “Millions of viewers have been excluded from communication financed with public funds. This means one thing – state information campaigns are being used politically and in a completely non-pluralistic manner,” he wrote.
“In response to my parliamentary inquiry, the ministry explains itself with ‘information campaigns’ and EU funds. But farmers see something different: approval for Mercosur, no real protection of Polish production, and at the same time millions for promotion in favorable media!” he declared.
