Prosecutors Ordered to Monitor PiS Meetings. Woś: “A Clear Abuse of Power”

“This shows their fear and uncertainty. Politicians have repeatedly said – including Zbigniew Ziobro – that these criminals will simply be held accountable for this. They should not count on retirement privileges or a quiet departure from the prosecutor’s office, because they will answer for the crimes they are committing,” this is how Michał Woś, former Deputy Minister of Justice, comments on the findings of the Niezalezna.pl portal. The case concerns a memo obtained by our newsroom. It shows that a team from the National Public Prosecutor’s Office investigating the spending of funds from the so-called Justice Fund was tasked with… monitoring statements by Law and Justice (PiS) politicians – unrelated to the substance of the charges.

The Niezalezna.pl portal obtained a memo indicating that, on the order of Prosecutor Woźniak – head of Investigative Team No. 2 at the National Public Prosecutor’s Office – online resources were reviewed to identify materials concerning statements made by Zbigniew Ziobro during the panel Poland of Justice – Reform of the Third Branch of Power, held at the Program Convention “Thinking Poland” in Katowice on 25 October 2025.

In particular, the review focused on “statements concerning planned actions related to reforming the justice system in the event that today’s opposition regains power.”

Moreover, the memo contains an absurd entry claiming that plans to reform the justice system “may be linked to the proceedings conducted by Investigative Team No. 2 of the National Public Prosecutor’s Office against Marcin Romanowski and other suspects accused under Article 231 sections 1 and 2 of the Penal Code.”

The review covered the party’s website as well as the official Law and Justice (PiS) profile on the YouTube platform. Fragments of the statements were then transcribed.

The memo lists individuals who took part in the panel. In addition to Zbigniew Ziobro, these include party politicians such as Michał Woś, Paweł Jabłoński, and Marcin Warchoł, as well as academics Professor Anna Łabno and Professor Artur Kotowski, and Łukasz Bernaciński, Vice President of the Ordo Iuris Institute.

Woś to Niezalezna.pl: These criminals will be held accountable

The Niezalezna.pl portal asked former Deputy Minister of Justice Michał Woś to comment on the matter. In an interview with us, the politician assesses that “this is an absolute scandal, because what does a convention of this or that party have to do with the Investigative Team for the Justice Fund and the competences of these prosecutors…”

He adds that “this is an obvious misuse of an official position, because such an order was issued by the head of the team, Professor Woźniak, to his subordinates. This is undoubtedly an abuse of power. I think that with this action he is adding another paragraph to his own indictment, while committing the very same violations of the law.”

In Woś’s view, “this also shows their fear and uncertainty. Politicians have repeatedly said – including Zbigniew Ziobro – that these criminals will simply be held accountable for this. They should not count on retirement privileges or a quiet departure from the prosecutor’s office, because they will answer for the crimes they are committing. And it seems they will live at the expense of the state, but not by receiving retirement benefits – rather by receiving room and board in appropriate state institutions.”
