Record Turnout in Hungary. Significantly Higher Than in Previous Years

According to data from the Hungarian National Election Office, voter turnout in Hungary’s parliamentary elections reached 16.89% as of 9:00 a.m.

More than 1.27 million eligible citizens had already cast their ballots.

The highest turnout was recorded in counties in the southern part of the country — Tolna (18.61%), Békés (18.61%), Bács-Kiskun (18.53%), and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok (18.35%). The lowest turnout was observed in the north-eastern regions, in the counties of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén (14.13%), Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (14.52%), and Nógrád (15.09%).

Hungarian media point out that this is record-high turnout, particularly compared to previous elections.

Four years ago, turnout at 9:00 a.m. stood at 10.31%, while in 2018 it was 13.71%. In earlier years, turnout figures were even lower.
