Republika Journalists, Cenckiewicz and the President Targeted – Former Minister Warns: “This Does Not Happen Without Context”

Former Minister of Digital Affairs Janusz Cieszyński commented on the intervention of services in an apartment belonging to the family of President Karol Nawrocki. The politician assessed that the situation “does not happen without context” and linked it to earlier cases of false reports concerning employees of TV Republika, as well as – as he stated – broader problems of the state in the areas of security and cyber threats.

For over a dozen days, journalists and commentators associated with TV Republika have been facing a series of attacks targeting their private lives. Emergency services were repeatedly called to the home addresses of employees of the Free Speech House. All of these calls turned out to be false. There have been dozens of such incidents recently. The government led by Donald Tusk has shown almost no reaction – apart from mocking comments online or, for example, during press conferences.

Tusk reacts selectively

On Friday evening, a Ukrainian influencer drove a sports car along the asphalt road leading to Morskie Oko, despite a ban on private vehicles within the Tatra National Park. At the site, he took photos with his partner in front of the car and then returned the same way. The man was stopped by police while leaving the park. Officers fined him 100 PLN and issued eight penalty points. The tariff for such an offense provides for a penalty ranging from 20 PLN to 5,000 PLN. The case sparked outrage on social media, where users pointed out the low penalty for violating regulations in a protected area.

Interestingly – this case was commented on publicly by Donald Tusk. “The reckless drive of the Ukrainian driver on the road to Morskie Oko understandably provokes outrage. I have asked the Ministry of the Interior and Administration to urgently determine all the details of this incident and to draw severe consequences,” he wrote on the X platform.

Meanwhile, yesterday evening – a scandalous and unprecedented situation occurred. Following anonymous reports of a possible fire and a threat to the lives of people inside, emergency services – the fire brigade and police – forcibly entered, breaking down the door, the family home of President Karol Nawrocki in Gdańsk.

Here as well, Donald Tusk reacted by publishing a post and convening a morning briefing at the Government Security Centre. However, during it he stated:

“We are not dealing with a wave, but with several very spectacular provocations involving reports to the fire brigade and the police. This creates a terrible impression and a growing sense of threat.”

A moment later, he added that “the second reason why we must act very quickly here is the creation of a wave of purely political and conspiratorial speculation. Some are more absurd than others, but unfortunately they are very strong”, thereby attacking the opposition.

Cieszyński: none of this happens without context

The Prime Minister’s actions were pointed out and commented on X by Janusz Cieszyński, former Minister of Digital Affairs. At the beginning of his post, he noted: “yesterday we once again saw the true face of D. Tusk’s state.”

“First, a caricature of a firm reaction – a 5-year entry ban to Poland – against a foolish influencer who drove to Morskie Oko. Why? It’s obvious – because it became loud online. A few hours later: total helplessness. Firefighters sent by a provocateur to intervene at the apartment of the President of the Republic of Poland. The broken door of an empty apartment will remain a symbol of the failure of the system of D. Tusk and M. Kierwiński.”

In his view, “none of this happens without context.”

Cieszyński pointed out that “actions in the field of security since the beginning of the term have been largely woven into a narrative invented for political purposes about a PiS ‘octopus’, whose tentacles the Police, the Internal Security Agency (ABW), and other services must cut off as quickly as possible. At the same time, quietly and in the name of the ambitions of Police Commander Marek Boroń, the Cyber Police is being dismantled, and only the President’s veto stopped the liquidation of the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA).”

“Yesterday’s situation is a copy of the scandalous entry into the apartment of Tomasz Sakiewicz. A false report, lack of verification tools, and finally – a reaction perceived by the public as disproportionate. All this in 2026, when building a situational awareness system based on data dispersed across dozens of institutions no longer sounds like science fiction,” assessed the Law and Justice (PiS) politician.

He stressed: “it must be said clearly: the officers who act according to procedures and use the tools provided by their superiors are not responsible for this failure. Those superiors, together with Marcin Kierwiński, known mainly for unconventional ways of celebrating Firefighter’s Day, should lose their positions as soon as possible.”
