The Prosecutor’s Office in Gorzów Wielkopolski has expanded the charges against Robert Bąkiewicz. In addition to insulting officers of the Border Guard (SG) and the Military Gendarmerie, investigators added the charge of publishing the image of a Border Guard officer without his consent. The leader of the Border Defense Movement appeared at the prosecutor’s office on Wednesday, and after the questioning he convened a press conference, where he sharply criticized the authorities’ actions.
“The evidence shows that I did not commit any crime,” he said at the start of his statement, pointing out that the entire case is unprecedented:
“We are dealing with a huge scandal. First of all, we do not have access to the full case files. Secondly, the case is unfolding in an absurd situation, where normally such matters are not handled by the prosecutor’s office, let alone by a district prosecutor’s office,” said Robert Bąkiewicz.
He then emphasized that the collected documents provide no grounds for bringing charges against him:
“All the evidence we have in this case shows that I did not commit any crime, and the prosecutor’s office has no evidence whatsoever,” he stressed.
Bąkiewicz pointed out that he had been subjected to searches, which in his view were meant only to find a pretext for the proceedings:
“At this point, I was personally searched and attempts are being made to seize various items in order to look for arguments to conduct proceedings against me. What is happening in the prosecutor’s office is barbarism, it is a crime, it is a practice that should have no place in the Polish justice system,” said the leader of the Border Defense Movement.
Referring to the expanded charges, Bąkiewicz did not hide his outrage:
“The extension of this charge concerns the publication of the image of a Border Guard officer. This is a setup, a search for arguments to find anything against me, just to keep the case going. To chase the rabbit, not to catch it,” he noted.
