The guest on Sunday’s program “Miłosz Kłeczek w ruchu” was Robert Bąkiewicz, a social activist and founder of the Border Defense Movement, who described a shocking incident at the Polish-German border. “I think it was about a month and a half, maybe two months ago, when a German police officer pointed a firearm at a Polish citizen on Polish soil. After this incident, there was no reaction whatsoever from the Polish government,” said Robert Bąkiewicz.
Absurd preventive measures against Bąkiewicz
A few days ago, Robert Bąkiewicz was reportedly charged with “insulting” officers of the Border Guard and the Military Police near the Polish-German border in Słubice. The founder of the Border Defense Movement was presented with a decision to impose preventive measures, including reporting to the police station twice a week near his place of residence. Another preventive measure is a ban on approaching the Polish-German border or border crossings closer than one kilometer. However, no preventive measures, such as a ban on leaving the country, were imposed on him.
“Under this preventive measure, I can travel abroad anywhere, even to Germany, but not directly across the Polish-German border. At the moment, I am waiting for the lawyers’ opinion, because they say there is absolutely no legal basis for this, and that I can even go shopping several times a day, for example, to Frankfurt (Oder),”
said the founder of the Border Defense Movement.
“I will comply with these legal procedures to the extent that they are consistent with Polish law. Now the lawyers will be considering what steps we should take. First of all, we are filing a complaint against these actions of the prosecutor’s office, because they are simply baseless. I hope the court will dismiss these preventive measures. Such restrictions are introduced for people to prevent interference with witnesses or altering testimony, not to prevent approaching the Polish-German border,”
Bąkiewicz noted.
Germany attacked the Border Defense Movement
In his conversation with Miłosz Kłeczek, Robert Bąkiewicz recalled several confrontational incidents involving members of the Border Defense Movement and German police.
“There was a situation where, on one of the small bridges over the Lusatian Neisse, Germans suddenly jumped out and started shouting at our colleagues: ‘Halt, Polen!’ It sounded very unpleasant. Germans running and crossing the border after the Poles on such a small bridge, shouting like that at them. A moment later, I was at the scene and saw Germans provocatively shining lasers and powerful floodlights in our direction. Colleagues from the Border Defense Movement were there because they had information that German services were simply pushing migrants into Poland in that area,”
said Bąkiewicz.
“In another situation, one of the members of the Border Defense Movement approached a German police officer who was patrolling with a Polish officer, and that German officer pulled out a pistol at the Pole and started shouting ‘weg’. This happened on Polish territory. I spoke about this incident several times, but somehow the media didn’t take much interest. I think it was about a month and a half, maybe two months ago, when a German police officer pointed a firearm at a Polish citizen on Polish soil.”
“In that situation, the Polish officer did not react, because in the border zone, it is the Germans who call the shots. Poles need to realize that the Germans informally enjoy a dominant position. After the introduction of border checks, things changed somewhat. The Germans felt a bit uncomfortable, so to speak, when they saw Polish soldiers armed and guarding the Polish border,”
noted the chairman of the Independence Party.
“One must remember that in this border zone, German officers very often feel more confident than Polish officers. Hence, there is quite significant support among Polish officers for our actions, because apart from the danger of migrants being pushed from Germany into Poland, Poles also felt humiliated,”
observed the founder of the Border Defense Movement.
