German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius warned that Intelsat satellites, used among others by the German military, are being tracked by Russian Luch-Olymp satellites. He also emphasized that in recent years the Russians have increased their capabilities in space.
Pistorius, quoted by Reuters, raised the alarm that Russia and China have expanded their capabilities in outer space in recent years.
“They can disrupt satellite operations, blind satellites, affect their functioning in other ways, or physically destroy them,” he said.
The minister also pointed out that two Russian Luch-Olymp satellites are tracking Intelsat satellites, which are used, among others, by the German military.
According to Pistorius, the German government plans to allocate about 35 billion euros to space projects by 2030, with a particular focus on defense-related issues.
