Russia’s Federal Security Service reported that Polish intelligence services were involved in recruiting the man who shot Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev. According to the Russians, the order to carry out the attack was allegedly issued by the Security Service of Ukraine.
The attempted assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseyev, the first deputy head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, took place on Friday. The officer was attacked in the stairwell of a building in northwestern Moscow after leaving his apartment and heading toward the elevator.
He was reportedly shot three times in the chest or abdomen. The attacker and his accomplice fled the scene. The general survived the attack, regained consciousness after surgery, and doctors declared that his life was no longer in danger.
On Sunday, the Russian Federal Security Service announced that 66-year-old Lubomir Korba had been detained in Dubai. One of the attacker’s accomplices was arrested in Moscow.
The FSB claims that Korba was recruited by an SBU officer in August 2025 in Ternopil, underwent a polygraph test, and was trained in communication via the Zoom platform. According to the FSB, Polish intelligence services were involved in recruiting the attacker. These reports should be treated with great caution. The FSB has not so far published any evidence to support its accusations against Poland.
He was allegedly to receive $30,000 from the SBU for killing a high-ranking Russian military officer.
