Despite playing brilliantly, Magda Linette failed to beat Aryna Sabalenka. The Pole lost to the Belarusian 6-7, 2-6 in the semi-finals of the Australian Open.
Although Magda Linette did her best, she was not able to defeat Aryna Sabalenka. The Belarusian won Thursday’s Australian Open semi-final 7:6 (7:1), 6:2 and advanced to the final.
The Polish tennis player was feeling great as she stepped onto the court on Thursday. Her recent wins at the Australian Open had led her to the biggest accomplishment of her career – a first-ever appearance in the semi-finals of a Grand Slam event.
Linette started the first set brilliantly. She broke Sabalenka already in the first game and soon led 2:0. However, the Belarusian quickly drew and did not let the Pole break until the end of the first set.
The tie-break had to decide the winner, which was new for Sabalenka. None of this year’s opponents had forced her into such a long battle on the court. Despite the unusual situation for the Belarusian, she won 7:1, ending the first set with a score of 7:6.
The victory inspired her to play even better. In the second game, she ruled the court. She broke Linette twice, quickly taking the lead. She won 6:2 and ended a beautiful adventure for the Polish tennis player.
Sabalenka will face Jelena Rybakina in the final.
