“This loan will have to be repaid over 45 years — that is a very long time,” former Polish defense minister Mariusz Błaszczak said about the SAFE program during the “Guest Today” program on TV Republika. In his view, “this project is not really about defense.”
Earlier this afternoon, a loan agreement under the SAFE program was signed at the Chancellery of the Prime Minister. The document was signed by EU commissioners as well as ministers Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Andrzej Domański. The SAFE agreement was concluded despite clear opposition from President Karol Nawrocki.
The SAFE loan was discussed by PiS MP Mariusz Błaszczak during the “Guest Today” program on TV Republika.
“In our opinion, the objective is completely different. This is not about defense, but about filling the enormous budget deficit created by Donald Tusk’s government by imposing obligations on future generations. This loan will have to be repaid over 45 years — that is a very long time,” the former defense minister said in an interview with Danuta Holecka.
Błaszczak also pointed to the so-called conditionality mechanism.
“The European Union, which has been transformed into an organization reshaped by Germany, has previously forced changes of government in EU member states. This is a strictly political mechanism,” he said.
The PiS politician also argued that “this loan cannot be used to purchase the kind of weapons that should be ordered by the Ministry of National Defence.”
“There is already a long queue of countries waiting to place orders with the United States, but this loan excludes our ability to make further purchases from America,” Błaszczak stated.
“This loan, by design, can be used for orders placed in Europe. These are not funds for defense — these are funds intended to rebuild the German arms industry,” he added.
