The Ombudsman has taken interest in the actions of the police against TV Republika, and above all against Tomasz Sakiewicz. “He contacted me with a request to provide all possible documentation concerning these actions. He intends to move the case forward,” said the head of Republika during the program “Gość Dzisiaj.”
“The matter is exceptionally scandalous because, without any warrant and without identifying himself, a police officer searched my apartment, which is at the same time an office, so additionally he violated journalistic confidentiality. I also do not know whether he found anything, took anything, or perhaps planted something, because no note and no report of this intrusion were prepared. After everything, the police officers simply fled like bandits. These are criminals in uniforms who attack people because they operate outside the boundaries of any law whatsoever,” stressed Tomasz Sakiewicz.
He added that it had been possible to establish their identities and that they were officers from the vicinity of Częstochowa, not normally connected with any police headquarters in Warsaw.
“I feel somewhat sorry for these young police officers, but they behaved like bandits, truly. They deserve to be thrown out of the police force and punished, because they violated all procedures, and the removal of personal identification markings and the refusal of a police officer to identify himself means that he may be treated as a bandit. A uniform alone is not enough,” added the head of Republika.
Tomasz Sakiewicz admitted that the entire matter is already being commented on outside the country.
“I am receiving messages from abroad from very serious people saying that there may be a major reaction to what is happening. Please remember — of course I do not know whether this will happen — but if the persons responsible for these actions, for these repressions against the media, were to be subjected to American sanctions, it is not only the case that they would not enter the United States, they would be in serious trouble everywhere — they would be recorded in financial systems, so for example they would have problems obtaining credit. And nobody has any doubts that behind this stands the gangster-like team of the current authorities, which is simply trying to destroy Republika,” concluded Tomasz Sakiewicz.
