Sawicki Slams Potential PM Candidate: “He’s Just a Figurehead”

Rzeczpospolita has reported that within the Civic Platform (PO), “there is a growing belief that this will be Donald Tusk’s last cabinet reshuffle,” and that a change at the head of government may take place next year. Among the names being mentioned as potential new prime ministers are Radosław Sikorski, Tomasz Siemoniak, Andrzej Domański, and Maciej Berek.

Discussions about a cabinet reshuffle – expected to happen in July – have been ongoing for some time. The media have been speculating about its scope, but according to a poll published today by Rzeczpospolita, Poles don’t believe that the changes will allow Donald Tusk to “save face.”

“We’ve had this soap opera about the cabinet reshuffle for a month and a half now, so I don’t expect any major changes. If today Rzeczpospolita writes that Platform is planning to replace the prime minister next year, then I say to my colleagues in PO – here’s a piece of good advice: do it now. This is the final call,”

said Marek Sawicki, an MP from the Polish People’s Party (PSL), on Radio Trójka.

A New Prime Minister Next Year?

Rzeczpospolita pointed out that there is increasing belief within PO that this could be Donald Tusk’s last reshuffle, with a leadership change possibly happening in 2026. The names being floated for the prime minister’s post include Radosław Sikorski, Tomasz Siemoniak, Andrzej Domański, and Maciej Berek.

Sawicki had strong words for one of the potential candidates.

“Tell me at least three accomplishments of Minister Domański over the past 19 months. I can’t recall any. What I do know is that Deputy Minister Majszczyk is the one actually in charge at the finance ministry, and Minister Domański is merely a figurehead. So – there’s no money, and there won’t be. That’s the same old story I remember from when I was in government,”

he stated.
