Scandal at the Debate: Pro-Russian Candidate Openly Admits Admiration for Putin

During the “Super Express” presidential debate, Marek Jakubiak posed a direct question to Maciej Maciak: whether he admired Vladimir Putin. Maciak’s response was clear: yes. What followed sparked a major scandal.

In the debate organized by Super Express, candidates took turns asking each other questions. One of the presidential hopefuls, known for his openly pro-Russian views—a stance consistent with his previous activities—was confronted by Marek Jakubiak. Jakubiak asked Maciej Maciak plainly: “Do you admire Putin?”

“Yes. None of us here in Poland could withstand such pressure. That shows he’s a very good politician,” Maciak replied, leaving no room for doubt. Following his statement, a shout could be heard from the audience: “applause for Putin.”

Later, during another round of questions, Szymon Hołownia turned to Maciak and began addressing him—in Russian.

Who is Maciej Maciak?

As previously reported by Niezalezna.pl, Maciej Maciak, presidential candidate and leader of the Prosperity and Peace Movement (Ruch Dobrobytu i Pokoju), has for some time been actively promoting pro-Russian content on social media. He also regularly appears as a commentator on a Polish-language program broadcast by International Radio Belarus—a station controlled by the Belarusian regime of Alexander Lukashenko. He was referred to by the late Jerzy Targalski as the “Russian mouthpiece from Włocławek.”
