Scandal Erupts Around Dariusz Joński: PiS Demands Prosecutor’s Action After Alleged Gifts from Convicted Criminal

Politicians from the Law and Justice party (PiS) will file a complaint with the prosecutor’s office in connection with the scandal surrounding Civic Coalition (KO) MP Dariusz Joński. According to media reports, Joński allegedly accepted expensive gifts from a convicted criminal, Andrzej R. “MP Joński – usually extremely active – has suddenly vanished today,” noted MEP Piotr Müller.

Scandal with Dariusz Joński in the Leading Role

The portal Goniec.pl published an investigative report about KO MP Dariusz Joński. The material suggested that the politician—known for his involvement in the “fight against corruption”—may have fallen into its temptation himself, accepting costly gifts from convicted criminal Andrzej R.

Among the listed gifts were Tom Ford eyeglass frames and a tailor-made suit—the very one Joński allegedly wore on the cover of a book devoted to… the fight against corruption.

The politician responded on platform X (formerly Twitter), announcing that he would take legal action against the editorial office.

“In connection with the slander and defamation that appeared today on one of the portals, I am taking the matter to court. I will demand an apology and a payment of PLN 50,000 to the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP),” declared the KO MP.

PiS Politicians: We’re Filing a Complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office

During a press conference today, PiS politicians addressed the controversy surrounding Dariusz Joński. MEP Waldemar Buda emphasized that “it is absolutely unacceptable for a member of parliament—specifically Dariusz Joński, a new addition to the Civic Coalition—who is supposed to serve in the name of the people, to be so dependent on the criminal underworld, on financing or being supported with money that most likely came from crime.”

“Suits, phones, foreign trips, excursions, glasses. We’re not talking about some local activist—we’re talking about a man who was the greatest ‘scandal hunter’ during our government, who wrote extensively about corruption, and who posed on the cover of his book wearing glasses bought from a criminal.

Of course, we are talking about media reports, but today we are filing a notification with the prosecutor’s office to secure the material published by that outlet and to have the witnesses questioned,” Buda said.

MEP Piotr Müller in turn spoke about what, in his view, Prime Minister Donald Tusk should now do.

“We expect Prime Minister Donald Tusk to make an immediate decision to suspend or expel MP Joński from the party. Because if such serious doubts appear—as we see in the media—the natural move for any political leadership is at least to suspend such a member, in this case, an MEP candidate.

MP Joński—usually very active—has suddenly disappeared today,” Müller stated.

He reminded that Joński “didn’t answer phone calls yesterday or the day before, and he hasn’t been seen at press conferences as often as before.”

“Therefore, today we simply call on him to have the courage to come out and explain all the allegations made against him. He has so often spoken about transparency and standards—now, for the first time in his life, he has a chance to actually apply those standards in practice,” Müller concluded.
