Series of false alarms. Prosecutors seek pre-trial detention for two suspects

The prosecutor’s office has filed two motions with the court seeking pre-trial detention in connection with a series of false alarm reports. The cases concern incidents involving the home of PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński and the headquarters of Telewizja Republika.

Wave of false reports

The series of false emergency reports culminated on Saturday evening. Following anonymous notifications — first about an alleged fire and later about a supposed threat to the lives of people inside the building — police and firefighters were dispatched to the scene. Officers forcibly entered the family home of Karol Nawrocki in Gdańsk, breaking down the door. The intervention lasted several minutes and ended after authorities established that the apartment was empty.

Earlier, similar false alarms targeted the apartment of Prof. Sławomir Cenckiewicz, and before that the premises of Tomasz Sakiewicz, as well as other journalists and associates linked to Telewizja Republika.

Two motions for pre-trial detention

According to findings by tvn24.pl journalists, the Warsaw-Praga District Prosecutor’s Office has submitted two motions for pre-trial detention in connection with the false alarms involving, among others, Jarosław Kaczyński and the headquarters of Telewizja Republika.

Two people have been detained in the case. One of the detention motions has already been approved by the Warsaw-Praga Północ District Court, while the second is still awaiting consideration.

According to unofficial reports, police have most likely also identified the perpetrators behind the false report concerning the apartment of Karol Nawrocki’s mother. At this stage, however, there is no confirmation that Russian services were involved in the operation.
