Andrzej Szejna was elected yesterday as the head of the Świętokrzyskie regional structures of the New Left (NL). The politician announced that after the national congress in December, the party would launch an intensive campaign in the region and begin work on its political program. However, not everyone approves of this level of activity – former MP Beata Maciejewska didn’t hold back her criticism.
It is worth recalling that at the turn of March and April, Andrzej Szejna had to take a leave of absence following reports of his alcohol-related issues, a moral scandal, as well as irregularities in mileage reimbursements. Shortly afterward, amid growing tensions, he ended his work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
As it turned out, however, that did not stop him from continuing his political activity within the party.
Szejna, who was re-elected as chairman of the New Left in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, emphasized that he was proud of the renewed mandate and saw it as an obligation to remain active. He noted that the Świętokrzyskie branch of the New Left was beginning intensive preparations for the parliamentary elections to be held in two years. The politician argued that the goal of the regional structures would be to systematically increase support in the region, where – as he pointed out – politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) still dominate.
Szejna announced that he had nominated Jacek Skórski for the position of party secretary. Among the candidates for vice-chairmen were, among others, Artur Pejas and Józef Grabowski. The congress also included elections for the regional council and delegates to the New Left national congress, which will take place on December 14.
The regional congress was attended, among others, by Krzysztof Gawkowski, vice-chairman of the New Left. However, not everyone welcomed Szejna’s re-election.
“A festival of democracy in Świętokrzyskie,” former MP Beata Maciejewska commented ironically. “That’s how politics is done! Szejna’s role model is Włodzimierz Czarzasty, who kept removing inconvenient people until he achieved the desired election outcome and stayed in power. Today, the two keep sailing on – one toward the marshal’s chair, the other toward the salons. These are the true standards of the Left!” she added.
