President Donald Trump was unaware of the meeting between Marco Rubio and Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski. This reportedly came to light during the meeting between the Polish delegation and the American president at the White House, as revealed today by Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk.
Yesterday, Polish President Karol Nawrocki met with U.S. President Donald Trump. The American president declared, among other things, that U.S. troops would remain in Poland. In addition, according to the Polish president, Trump invited him to next year’s G20 summit in Florida. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski was in Miami, where he met with Marco Rubio. Was this visit meant to counter the president’s agenda?
“It would be optimal if the government fully supported the president in his initiatives, particularly in the transatlantic channel,” MP Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk said today on Polsat News. The former deputy foreign minister criticized the government, saying it had failed to build channels of communication with the U.S.
When asked about Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski’s meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Szynkowski vel Sęk replied that President Donald Trump did not even know about the meeting, something that allegedly emerged from the U.S.–Polish presidential talks.
“I know this directly from Minister Marcin Przydacz, with whom I had the opportunity to speak today,” added Szynkowski vel Sęk.
“That Minister Radosław Sikorski is now trying to hitch himself to the president’s success through his activity—well, I would not assess this as particularly fortunate on a human level,” he noted.
The former deputy minister also spoke about the undeniable success of President Karol Nawrocki’s visit to the United States. “An unquestionable success is the declaration of maintaining or possibly expanding the American military presence in Poland. And this is a window opened by the president, but now, in order to expand that military presence—which from the point of view of our national interest would be very valuable—the government should be pushing for it. The president has opened the window, but now it must be filled with substance and activity,” he said.
