Radosław Sikorski has no intention of changing his nomination of Ryszard Schnepf as Poland’s ambassador to Rome. If President-elect Karol Nawrocki refuses to sign the appointment, the diplomat will remain only a chargé d’affaires.
Tusk Government’s Battle Over Ambassadors
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced that he would not alter the nomination of Ryszard Schnepf as Poland’s ambassador to Italy. Despite opposition from President-elect Karol Nawrocki, Sikorski emphasized that Schnepf is “a good representative of our country” and that there is no reason to seek another candidate.
“I see no reason to change it. He is a good representative of our country,” Sikorski said when asked about the possibility of replacing Schnepf.
Speaking to RMF FM, the foreign minister noted that if the president refuses to approve the nomination, Schnepf will serve only as chargé d’affaires. President Andrzej Duda opposes Schnepf’s appointment, viewing him as a figure aligned with the political camp of Donald Tusk. In the president’s opinion, an ambassador should be a nonpartisan figure who enjoys broad trust and ensures consistency in foreign policy.
