Sikorski Warns Against Being “Suckers” – Faces Sharp Rebuttal Over Fear of Criticizing Germany

“One should not be a sucker at all, including in relations with Germany, and I have the impression that Mr. Sikorski is afraid to say a single bad word about Germany. He is the first to jump into little wars on social media with Elon Musk or Marco Rubio, but when it comes to saying something negative – yet true – about the EU or about Germany, then he is afraid,” Paweł Jabłoński, an MP from Law and Justice (PiS) and former deputy foreign minister, told Niezalezna.pl while commenting on Sikorski’s speech.

Presenting a report on the objectives of Poland’s foreign policy for 2026 before the Sejm, Radosław Sikorski argued that “society is confused” about the current actions of the United States. “We will be a loyal ally of America, but we cannot be suckers,” he said. At the same time, he praised Poland’s membership in the European Union and claimed that “it is better to talk to a strong Germany as a partner within the EU than to a strong Germany without the bonds and norms imposed on it by the community.”

“Gigantic chaos, jumping from topic to topic. While the first part of the speech was rather shallow – something about the Cuban opposition, something about the EU, something about security, about Germany, about Asia, then again about the Union. When everyone in the chamber was dozing off, he suddenly decided he had to be more confrontational and started talking about Polexit. So the Civic Platform (PO) fairy tale, which they have been using to scare children for 10 years, was once again invoked by Sikorski to frighten people with Polexit. Completely senseless and inappropriate for such a speech. This is not supposed to be a political speech, but a presentation of the priorities of Polish diplomacy,” assessed former deputy foreign minister Paweł Jabłoński.

In his opinion, many issues were missing from Sikorski’s address, including Poland’s position in the region and the Three Seas Initiative, while what stood out was a “lack of criticism toward the EU.”

What does Jabłoński think about Sikorski’s remark about “not being a sucker”?

“One should not be a sucker at all, including in relations with Germany, and I have the impression that Mr. Sikorski is afraid to say a single bad word about Germany. He is the first to jump into little wars on social media with Elon Musk or Marco Rubio, but when it comes to saying something negative – yet true – about the EU or about Germany, then he is afraid,” added the former deputy head of the Foreign Ministry.
